Benefits:

By using an “unlocked” phone that has the artificial single-network restriction removed, in combination with a local prepaid SIM card, business travelers will never have to find a shocking bill. The business traveler is in total control of his spending. In most countries, incoming calls are free (even if the calls are from another country). Outgoing calls are substantially cheaper (ex. One minute local call in Italy, UK, or France cost on average $0.15 with the local carrier whereas roaming is about $1.29 with AT&T; one minute local call in China cost about $0.03 versus $2.29 with AT&T; ). In addition, the business traveler will gain the benefit of having a local number, which makes it easier and cheaper for the local clients, partners, employees and others to call.
When the business account migrates to another carrier (from AT&T to T-Mobile, for example), employees can continue to use their existing handsets, it eliminates the need to buy and learn new handsets. Often, the carrier is able to offer a better rate when the business provides its own handsets, hence translates into substantial saving.

Moderate Usage is estimated based on one-week trip, each person makes about 100 minutes of phone call at $2 per minute for both incoming and outgoing call. Such usage is typical assuming 10 occurrences of 10-minute conversations. Frequent Usage is estimated based on 400 minutes over a two week period.

Actual saving realized may be higher or lower depending on the individual usage, per-minute roaming fee charged by the home carrier, and the per-minute cost of local carrier. For example, if the home carrier charges $3 a minute, while the local carrier charges $0.50 a minute, the user will save $2.50 a minute. If the home carrier charges $1 a minute and local carrier charges $0.10 a minute, the user will save $0.90. If the user uses 100 minutes in the first case, he will save $250. If the user uses 200 minutes in the second case, he will save $200.
